Located on the continental divide between southwest Lyell Glacier and Mons Icefield. Banff Park, Alberta/BC border. Major headwaters Saskatchewan & Columbia rivers.

Named by Charles D. Walcott in 1919. The origin of the name is likely because the mountain separates the Lyell Icefield from the Mons Icefield. Official name.

First ascended in 1918 by Interprovincial Boundary Commission

Division Mountain rises above the southern end of the Lyell Icefield. The peak 0.6 km to the east of the main summit is East Peak.
