Naming: Carthew, William Morden (Carthew was R.W. Cautley's assistant in the Dominion Land Survey and climbed the mountain as part of the survey. He was killed in France in 1916. Official name.

Though more of a plod than a scramble, Mount Carthew is sometimes ascended by day-trippers hiking Carthew-Alderson trail or as a destination in itself. The ascent is a minor but worthwhile diversion from the trail. From the top you can wistfully study more impressive summits in nearby Glacier Park and a choice of two routes up offer variety.
