The mountain lies to the west of the valley of Exshaw Creek which flows from the northwest and through the town.
Unofficially named in 1947, it is said that a group attempted to climb the mountain in that year but claimed they were unsuccessful due to heavy bush. A subsequent attempt was successful without experiencing any difficulties, deciding that the story of the heavy bush was a "fable."
| Moderate via south slopes and west ridge. Mount Fable's climbing season is longer than many and some years is feasible by late May. It is far from crowded but does see regular activity.
